I have broken pretty much every rule I've set for myself except one to date - don't buy if it will impact any future life decisions.

Aside from that, have fun .

Wow do I wish I was allowed to follow that rule. Heck I'd even settle for the portion that goes to principle is also set aside for watches.

Very interesting thread that until now I've never considered. I would have to say their are no rules. I own a lot of one brand, heck I even own two of the same model just from different eras. If I was to approach a rule it would be that a 7 watch rotation is my limit. That said, if I ever won the lottery that would go out the window.

    Three rules:

    1-Never go over 6 watches
    2-Manual wind only
3-Each watch has to have something different.

I try the one-in, one-out rule. Failed miserably in 2017 when I had 7 in the collection at one point. Otherwise, I have no rules.

Scratch that, one hardline rule I do have is that the market value of my collection is not to exceed $100,000 USD at any point in time.

No quartz. I did have a rule of only 1 per brand but when i thought of it...that was a stupid rule as why am i punishing a brand that I like or is producing quality.

That's going to be really tough to adhere to once the watches in your expected line arrive, especially knowing your affinity for the top two in your current line.

While I don't have much of a collection now, I do intend to limit myself to one watch from each brand. It forces me to choose my favourite from each manufacturer.
