It is not accurate. The letter states that the typical interval has "grown to 10 years" which means that the typical person who owns a Rolex services it once per 10 years. It is just a statistic that Rolex observed based on people bringing watches in for service. Personally I would service a new Rolex after 7-10 years if it was not having any issues and sooner if it was having issues.

That value is different for everyone based on how much they are willing to pay for an extended warranty. Let's use AP as an example again. AP has very expensive service costs and have been known to have issues more frequently than Rolex. AP recently increased their warranty to 5 years for all watches dated January 2017 and later (previously 3 years).

Watch "A" is a 2016 watch with 2 years warranty left. Watch "B" is a 2017 watch with 5 years warranty left. How much $$$ extra are you willing to pay for 3 extra years of warranty on an AP? To me that value is around $500-$1000 and I am seeing that in recent price trends. AP watches with 5 year warranties are retaining more value on the pre owned market.
Agreed. I'm not so sure on the extra $ value, but there is definitely value in a watch with a few years warranty remaining, vs. one with none remaining. It's like paying an insurance premium against a costly service expense.

And in the case of AP, I've found they're pretty generous with doing a full service even for minor issues. My Diver was running about 10 seconds fast in the last week of warranty, I sent it in, and it was fully serviced and returned to me with another 2 years of warranty.

He is busy. Busy having a life. Perhaps you should consider doing the same.
