For sale, a modified c.1978 Buckley Dial Rolex Datejust ref. 16013.
This watch was a project for me: I wanted to create what I thought would be the best of all possible worlds: a 16013, Buckley dial Datejust with golden hands and functioning lume, dating to 1983. From what I can tell, this dial/hands configuration was offered in the late 70s early 80s, but it is difficult to find examples in the wild. All parts of this watch are 100% authentic Rolex.
The watch is in excellent condition, keeping time within COSC specs (-2.2 spd). Watch case serial: 534xxxx. Watch purchased from Austins Watches (https://austinswatches.com) and comes with the balance of a 2 year warranty on the movement. The 3035 movement in this watch is from a 1983 Rolex Datejust 16014 (I have invoice and serial from the original); it was swapped out during service at Austins Watches (I have invoice documentation).
Case: clean and crisp 36mm case with a recent polish at Rolliworks. Thick even lugs throughout the watch; the case back still has the 16013 sticker. The case back gasket was replaced at Rolliworks)
Bezel: 18k YG fluted bezel, recently polished with flutes recut at Rolliworks.
Dial and Hands: This watch originally came with a champagne dial and a gold handset (both are included with the watch). I purchased a 16013 Buckley dial and 16013 gold handset (both from Chrono24) and had them professionally re-lumed (The Alchemist Relumer) and installed on the watch. So, as a fun feature, the handset and lume plots glow. Dial and hands are in excellent condition, with no noticeable marks or blemishes.
Datewheel: champagne date wheel with period correct open 6s and 9s.
Crown: excellent condition with clear coronet and bar and crisp splines (tube and gaskets replaced at Rolliworks).
Bracelet: 62523H (H code dating the bracelet to 1983) sent to Rolliworks for clean, tighten, and polish. It went from 45% to 95%, in excellent condition with little to no stretch. 21 links + 455 end links.
In essence this is a beautiful 16013, with period correct dial, hands, and movement, and bracelet. However, it is important to recognize that it has been modified. This will matter to some, and not to others. I have paperwork for everything I purchased for the watch, and can demonstrate the pedigree on request.
Watch is located in Regina, SK.
