Hello CWC,
Up for sale is my 1978 Rolex Submariner 1680 with beautiful patina. Serial # 5,447,XXX. I am the second owner of the watch. I purchased it from a business colleague middle of 2014. The watch is in mint condition, I don't believe it has been polished but some of the more seasoned vintage guys on here might be able to tell.
The watch was serviced by Rolex Canada back in February 2015. I ensured everything on the watch remained in tact and untouched, including no polishing of the case.
Dial, hands, date wheel, insert and bezel are all original the watch. The pearl unfortunately wasn't able to be saved through servicing so needed to be changed. The crown, tube and crystal all required replacement to ensure it met the correct pressure tests and water resistance. The bracelet is original to the watch but I needed to purchase a clasp from Rolex during service as they said they could not warranty the watch with the original clasp for fear of it breaking. As you can see from the picture, the servicing cost me just north of 1k.
I have never seen a 1680 for sale on this forum and didn't really have a baseline to price this watch out. I have checked Rolex Forum, HQ Milton, Bob's Watches etc for some rough numbers to try and correctly price this watch out. Ultimately the market will dictate what the watch is worth.
The watch does not come with original box and papers, although the original owner said he will look for them at some point. It does however come with the Rolex pouch, cleaning cloth and 3 years of warranty as of February 2015.
I am asking for $8,750 which includes shipping. Feel free to make a reasonable offer. I have made 2 transactions on this forum, purchased a watch and also sold one but I don't believe I was left any feedback. Hopefully that doesn't scare people away.
I am located in the Durham Region, in Ontario. I would be happy to meet at a location convenient.
Let me know of any questions.
Thanks
