Hey Folks
Up for grabs is a rarely seen neo vintage Grand Seiko SBGR017.
The watch is essentially a time capsule from 2 decades ago and is complete with the original box, warranty card, booklets, movement certificate, and manual.
I have been more impressed by this GS than most modern day Grand Seikos as the overall presentation of the watch has left nothing to be desired.
I rarely, if ever, pay this much attention to a watch bracelet, let alone photograph the various components, but this one deserves every bit of attention it can get.The bracelet on this watch is nothing short of an engineering marvel, especially for a watch, and at this price point.
Each link comprises 5 parts and the polished nuts (pun not intended) that fits into the recesses of the outer links require perfect alignment or one will not succeed in threading the screw.
The dodecagon outer bezel with a round inner step is very reminiscent of the AP, GP house, however not expected on a sub 10k, let alone sub 3k watch.
The hexagonal pattern on the off white dial seems like an echo of the bezel, painting a picture of artistry as opposed to simply watchmaking.
The dual Arabic markers at 12 and 6 are as much of a showstopper as the dial, and are done in a gothic font akin to the GS logo.
With being over 20 years old, the watch is in immaculate shape and in far better condition than I’ve seen 2-3 year old watches. The 9s55 movement yields over 50 hours of power and runs about -1s a day at an amplitude between 265-280
At 39mm diameter, the watch has a slim 13mm height, a 46mm lug to lug and a 19mm lug width. While GS is normally considered much too pretty for daily wear, this model balances out beauty and wearability, supported by a 200m water resistance rating.
The watch has some serious weight to it which takes you by surprise at first, but is a trait I enjoy thoroughly.
I’m asking $2899 f2f in the GTA for this beautiful example of GS from days past.
