Hey folks
Up for consideration is what has likely been my favourite chronograph in the sub 8k price range (secondary market)
The A384 is a sort of unsung hero and possesses oodles of character, right from the pump style pushers, to the tonneau shape and the drastically nuanced polished edges of the case.
Let’s set side the ugly for a bit, as there are a few signs of wear on the watch by way of a fleabite on the under side of the top left lug and a few minor hairlines on the polished bits of the case/clasp
The strap has also seen better days and the watch could use a new pair of shoes.
The watch comes as a full set including the original invoice, warranty card, manuals, and hang tag.
Now that that’s over, this watch comes in at a deceptive 37mm as it wears, mainly due to the design, closer to a 39/40 - Think BB58 or 214270.
The chronograph is truly a pleasure to operate with the chrono hand propelling forward with a sense of purpose.
This ref 03.A384.400/21.C815 features, the cal 400 movement boasting hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date and comes in at a mind blowing 13mm in thickness, which is incredible for a hi beat automatic chronograph WITH date.
Lug width for reference is 19mm
When you pick up this little nugget, you are not only reminded of the brands foresight, having dreamed up the cal 400 at a time when the quartz crisis was at its peak, but also of how true this revival is to the original and how “adequate”, was not enough; suprassing their counterparts at the time to present us with a 5hz fully integrated column wheel movement that has stood the test of time.
For this neat little “time capsule” I’m asking $6850 in the GTA, shipping at cost
