Up for consideration is one of my all time favourite GS GMT watches.
As we all know, Grand Seiko draws a ton of inspiration from nature, especially from the area surrounding their Shinshu Watch Studio.
The Hotaka Range surrounds the aforementioned studio and is what inspired this dial and the artisans at GS have tried to replicate the sharp ridges, slopes and cliffs of this range that was once formed by volcanic activity.
I’ve tried my best to capture the beauty of this dial and the glow of the encompassing lume in the sapphire bezel insert.
The pop of red from the GMT writing and GMT hand juxtaposed against the black backdrop make for a legible readout, while also drawing your attention to the dial.
This watch is every bit sporty, while touting a luxurious feel when on wrist and wealthy aesthetic when viewed across the table.
The watch has no discernible signs of wear and comes as a full Canadian package.
At 44mm, it might seem large on paper, but wears akin to a 42mm speedy with its bowl like design and tapers gradually downward into the lugs and into the midcase.
Sized for a 7.5” wrist, it will fit a much larger wrist with the extra links and extra micro adjustment positions.
