Up for grabs I have a rather handsome offering from Seiko and possibly for the seiko enthusiast.
Paying tribute to Seikos heritage in sports event timing of the 60s and their first chronograph in 1969 with the 6139 movement, Seiko was one of the few brands in close competition to bring the first automatic chronograph to production.
If you’re thinking the watch seems familiar, it probably does as it was fashioned to pay homage to the 1/5th second stopwatch from 1964, when placed on its side, crown up.
The oversized pump pushers are rather aggressive, in a positive manner and the crisp white dial screams legibility even with the thin baton hands aided by the black dial markers and the Bicompax layout.
The 41.5mm case features a simple mix of brushed and polished surfaces and boasts a 100m water resistance.
The 8R46 movement powering the watch is not a particularly handsome piece of kit which it more than makes up for by offering a column wheel and vertical clutch architecture. The movement runs at 28,800 VPH and provides a 45 hour power reserve. Accuracy on this handsome devil is between +3/+4s a day and an amplitude of about 305.
There are not a lot of automatic chronographs available in this price point that offer the same value and features provided by the Speedtimer, save for the Avigation Big Eye, which misses a rather useful complication, the date window at 6 on the Speedtimer.
The case and bracelet are in perfect condition as the watch has not seen much wear and the hard coating to the case and bracelet toughen up this already robust piece.
As aforementioned, the watch comes with the mounted black calfskin leather on deployant as well as the oem 3 link bracelet as part of a limited run of 1000 pieces.
Retail was quite steep on this model at over $4200 plus tax, while I’m asking $2799 f2f in the GTA or plus shipping
