Hey folks
Up for grabs is likely one of the most surprising watches to grace the wrist of collectors.
Steeped in heritage and toeing the line of dress and sports watch, this watch combines both seamlessly yielding a watch that is both elegant and easy to wear.
The Marine Big Date, discontinued since 2018, is one of the quintessential watches harkening to Breguet’s marine history from 1815 when King Louis XVIII appointed A.-L Breguet as Horologer to the French Royal Navy and pays tribute to the inventiveness of the Marine Chronometer.
The detailing of this piece is exquisite as the dial is hand made and solid gold, the patterning of which is drawn first by the guillocher before the cutting process commences via a rose engine lathe. The dial is then silvered and the heat blued numerals applied. The dial has multiple steps for added depth, as does the case.
Attention to detail runs throughout, with the numerals on the date wheel maintaining a blue hue and even the rubber strap featuring a Clous de Paris pattern, downward from the lugs. Still supple and pliant, the rubber strap is the perfect companion to this timepiece.
The marine/wave motif runs throughout the timepiece, from the snailing guilloche pattern of the centre dial and 18k gold rotor to the crown guard structure, the keepers on the strap and even the stylized buckle.
In overall very good condition, there are minor signs of wear to the case and clasp owing to minor scratches and superficial scuffs.
Sitting comfy on my 7.3” wrist, the watch measures 39mm x 12mm x 49mm with a 20mm lug width.
The package here includes double box, manuals and undated warranty booklet.
You could get a basic Rolly Explorer or get this for $12,250 shipped for a true example of the word “Timepiece”
