Up for sale is this very hard to come by Seiko SKX399 model, which, based on info from threads, was initially released in the Philippines. I am flipping it as I am currently thinning the herd and moving on to other priorities.
I ordered it from a Philippine-based seller months ago, as its rectangular chrome-lined indices really caught my fancy. This model is often dubbed the "poor man's Pelagos" and other collectors mod it to resemble the Tudor Pelagos even more closely.
When I got it, I tried it on, only to make its way straight to my watch case (after a couple of hours), where it's been sitting for the past few months. Last Wednesday, after a vigorous 30-second shake to wind it up manually, I found that it seems to be losing a minute every 2 hours or so. There are D-I-Y tutorials on youtube about regulating the watch which seem to be pretty easy and doable (I just don't have the guts to do so lest I botch it myself). I priced it low to allow for regulating / overhaul costs if you do not know how to regulate it yourself.
The bezel insert and rubber strap are obviously after-market (I got it that way). The rest of the watch is original including the much sought-after dial. It has been polished by the previous owner. The caseback shows light tool marks as I tried to capture in the pictures.
This is a great project to start. You can mod it to your liking (a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and super oyster bracelet would instantly give you that Pelagos feel), and you may want to have it professionally regulated for better time-keeping. I never showered nor went swimming with it, so I cannot say much about its water-resistance.
Yours for CAD200 (via EMT) and I take care of shipping anywhere in Canada. I can also do a F2F if you're in Calgary.
For sale is the watch only as seen in the pictures.
Thanks for looking!
