HISTORY: IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. IW3750 was a jaw-dropping feat that occurred during the throes of the Quartz Revolution. Thanks by Günter Blümlein, IWC's CEO at the time, and watchmaker Kurt Klaus, a new type of mechanically programmed perpetual calendar module was invented utilizing just 82 components. And the most impressive attribute was that, for the first time ever in a perpetual calendar, all adjustments – from the four-digit year to the moon phase – could be handled via the three o'clock screw-down crown. And to top it off, IWC added in something called the "century slide" which advances once every hundred years.
The IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph IW3750 was introduced in 1985 and remained in production until 2003. This steal of a perpetual calendar chronograph from IWC is one of the most historically important watches of the past 40 years. Its unique mushroom chronograph pushers, hinged lugs, and large moon-phase display have all become highly recognizable attributes and form one of IWC's most iconic designs.
