I'm selling an Omega Seamaster 200m automatic pre-bond mid-size (38mm without crown) watch, ref # 368.1042, on behalf of a friend. The watch is in my possession. The watch and myself are located in Vancouver.
First, a little bit about the watch. The watch was owned by my friend's father-in-law as a one-owner watch. The FIL gave it to my friend as it wasn't working. The watch has received a full overhaul with new mainspring (cost of $600, invoice will be included to buyer). The service was completed June, 2017. My friend is not a vintage guy at all so, after contemplating it for a month, asked me to help sell it for him.
The watch, as best as I can tell, is a transitional 1st/2nd generation. It has the correct 1st gen 6-lobed crown, 2 piece caseback, and single fold-over clasp. However, it seems to have the 2nd gen sword hands. (1st gen had the Mercedes hands.) There is a post with a fairly comprehensive history on this watch on another watch site, although it erroneously uses a ref # of 398.1042.
The movement # is 49,536,XXX which seems to date between 1986-1989. The caseback serial number matches the movement serial exactly. This makes sense as this watch was supposedly launched in 1988. The watch uses a caliber 1111.
The watch head is excellent. No polishing done (as far as I was told) to the watch in it's lifetime. The bezel is clean with no significant scratches. Original lume pip is still there. The dial is all original, all lume is intact, and has the original hour/minute/second hands. Yes, the lume colour does not match but it is all original. The watch band has all the links and will fit appx a 7.5-8" wrist. The watch band does show scratches, evident from normal wear and tear, but nothing deep.
From what I can tell, these pre-bond automatic Seamasters rarely come on the market, let alone 1st gen ones.
Considering the full service it has just gone through, which should give the buyer years and years of trouble-free use, the watch is being offered at $1950 CAD, inclusive of shipping. Per CWC rules, this is a reduced price from my USD asking price over at Timezone.
I don't have a long have a long history on CWC. My history is much more extensive on Timezone and I have excellent references. I hope you do, too.
Thanks for looking.
