Heritage

The Speedmaster Professional or "Moonwatch" was worn during the first American spacewalk as part of NASA's Gemini 4 mission. It was the first watch worn by an astronaut walking on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. The Speedmaster became qualified by NASA after a lengthy screening process. Click here to learn more about the kinds of tests NASA did to the various watches.

The Speedmaster Professional remains one of several watches qualified by NASA for spaceflight and is still the only one so qualified for EVA (extravehicular activity).

EVA: any activity done by an astronaut or cosmonaut outside a spacecraft.
