FSOT: Panerai Grail - PAM249 - The Legend That Started It All

I love the PAM249 for a variety of reasons.
8d6d3456d85a4914a6b6929c7fd50f87.jpg

1. It is a recreation of the original 1936 military prototype, limited to 1936 units.
2. Despite an almost identical SE released years later (PAM448) featuring an in-house movement (vs the ETA in the 249) and less than half as many produced (750), the 249 remains the more sought after of the two, and typically sells at a 20% premium to the comparable 448.
3. Details only a collector will appreciate. No branding on the dial. Though not a typical sandwich dial, the numbers and letters are cut out and filled by hand. The only watch to do so that I’m aware of.

4. That 47mm case.

The PAM 127 and PAM249 are the two special editions that tread that line of both Grail and attainable.

I’m in no rush to sell, but should I find both a passionate collector and a number that works for us both, I’m open to it.

The watch is an AD purchase, and is 95% complete. All the important pieces like Warranty card, booklets, SE box set, SE book, etc are all there. Missing are the original CSOC and outer boxes.

The chain of ownership of this watch is interesting as I believe it was a personal watch of the owner of the Authorized Dealer.

Priced at $11,000

You may notice I wear the watch mostly on the original 127 Fiddy gold cashmere strap. I do however have the original strap and buckle.

No haggle bonus: 2 additional OEM straps of your choosing, and a seldom seen 1.4mm
OEM driver.

Plexi #2 remains untouched and mint.

Okay.

I’ll be getting to individual photo requests tomorrow. In the interim, here are photos of the movement not taken with a potato.

249 on the left. Decorated version of G series 112 on the right.

The watch is simplistic as it embodies the spirit of the Panerai prototype that started it all.

Sold.

I would like to thank all the individuals that asked great questions and showed their appreciation for such a special watch.

Congrats to the winner. Was a pleasure to deal with start to finish.

And as always, thanks to CWC.
