In addition to “Booji Specials”, Boojiking has given away some items For Free here on Canwatchco. S/he has inspired me, and in that same spirit, I offer here my second give-away, a Citizen Skyhawk AT JY0000-53E.

This is a solar-powered Eco Drive watch in steel that I purchased new in 2008. It was my daily wear for many years and served me well, so she is not pristine. The band shows wear, the clasp is scuffed and scratched, and there is a scratch on the domed mineral glass crystal that I have tried to show in the attached photos. The watch head is in good condition, however, with no major dents or dings. Includes original box, instructions, and all links.

This has been sitting in a desk drawer for years, so I have no idea what shape the battery is in (I've left in on the windowsill this afternoon to start charging, but it's still flat). Regardless, this watch SHOULD BE SENT BACK TO THE CITIZEN SERVICE CENTRE IN MARKHAM, as this model is known to have a bug in the perpetual calendar that requires a factory update (yes, it is a "7" series serial number). You are responsible for sending the watch to the Canadian service centre, and I make no warranty about battery life, watch function, etc. I will clean the bracelet in my ultrasonic bath before shipping (although if it's going for a factory update/service, so will they).

Offered free to a watch aficionado just starting out in this hobby/addiction. Happy to meet F2F in the NCR. If you would like to send me $20 for shipping, that would be appreciated, but if you can't afford it and need the $20 IOT send the watch for a factory service, no worries.

Not intended for those who already own a modern Omega, Rolex, Tudor, Blancpain, Longines, Panerai, VC Overseas, JLC, Patek Phillipe Wordtimer, etc - you know how you are, please leave this for a new watch lover with limited funds.

Info on calendar issues:

Q: My Skyhawk A–T is showing the wrong date and the year is 2016. How do I correct this?
A: The factory has discovered a software anomaly in the calendar programming of the integrated circuit that affects some Skyhawk A–T and other styles utilizing the U600 movement calibre produced in 2007 for watches receiving either the U.S. or Japanese time signals. Customers receiving the German time signals are not affected. This anomaly inhibits the calendar from displaying the correct date from February 28, 2010 forward. Rest assured no other production series, feature, function, aesthetic portion or other Skyhawk series timepiece is affected.
To be exact, commencing January 1, 2010 the calendar program reads the programming for 2016, rather than 2010. The calendar will show correct until March 1 at which time the calendar will show February 29, rather than March 1. This is because 2016 is a leap year, while 2010 is not.
While not all pieces are affected, we cannot readily identify those that are. As such, we are asking to update all pieces with a U600 movement and a serial number that starts with “7″ not preceded by a ‘dot’ mark.
This is not a user update and the watch must be returned to a service centre for updating. This process will take approximately 2 weeks. If you are located in Canada, please feel free to call our support team at 1-800-461-4189 between the hours of 8:30AM to 5:00PM, Eastern Standard Time, Monday – Friday for further information.

I would like to thank everyone for their interest and inquiries, this watch is going to a new home. As I mentioned, I was inspired by Boojiking (although the spell check likes to change “Boojiking”to “Booking”), and good luck to the new owner in Manitoba!

Cheers,

Peter
