Up today I have one of the most recognizable modern releases from the GS lineup, my SLGA009 aka “The White Birch”
This next step in Grand Seiko’s evolution draws from the White Birch forest near the Shizukuishi studio which is mirrored in the dial work and mimics not only the forest but it’s confluence with the flow of time and the uniquely Japanese representation of Nature as Time - where time is considered to be a part of nature itself.
Similar to its mechanical counterpart SLGH005, there are subtle differences between the two, with the most obvious being the dial texture and tones. The 005 is almost silver and sparkles when it hits the sunlight, whereas the 009, in my opinion, is far more subtle, almost pristine white and a truer representation of the “White Birch”
The dial is housed in a beautifully rendered 40mm “Evolution” case with brushed and zaratsu polished edges. Beneath the dial lies the spring drive 9RA2 movement that yields a 5 day power reserve with an accuracy of ±10 seconds per month.
Coming in at 11.8mm in thickness and an apparent 48mm lug to lug (on bracelet) this timepiece is very wearable for wrists between 6.4”-7.5”
Condition is near mint with one blemish near 4’o clock on the bezel approx 1mm in size, barely noticeable but worth mentioning.
This timepiece is very worth I’d being a daily driver and one of you lucky individuals, can purchase this wearable artwork and have it adorn your wrist for a fraction of what it would cost in store.
