Looking for an affordable first Rolex? Into vintage? Expanding your collection?
Here we have a beautiful circa 1987 Datejust 15010 "Silver Sticks" model with engine turned bezel and with the desirable Oyster bracelet (the majority of these were sold with the Jubilee bracelet that does not look nearly as contemporary as the Oyster)
Purchased new in 1987 serviced periodically for certified watchmaker with Rolex experience. Runs great and keeps excellent time.
The silver white face is very striking and the crystal shows minor wear under magnification with no dings on the cyclops. I would not replace it. No corrosion to the face and hands. Never exposed to moisture. The high-rez photo shows some minor surface wear to the crystal but its really quite good. The engine turned bezel is unique and has a wonderful retro look. Rolex only offered it for a short time.
Watch was office worn and as expected shows lots of fine wear on bracelet but no gouges or deep scratches. A visible hairline on clasp is the most pronounced but would buff out easily (personally I would not) Bracelet has a bit of droop but not at all bad for a watch of this age and the links are very nice and solid. Not a whole lot of "jingle" to the bracelet. Case is very good. Bezel is awesome (remember these are high rez pictures with big magnification. A good jeweler or Rolex could satin-buff bracelet to as new condition but my advice is leave it exactly as is. That is the general consensus among collectors and investors. Worn older watches can command more than refurbished models.
Prior to taking these photos I just gave it a gentle cleaning with soapy water and micro fiber and a little Cape Cod treatment. This watch has never been power polished or dremmeled.
Bracelet comes with all links (a rarity) and official papers with serial number (not shown for obvious reasons) warranty, wallet etc.
I do not have the original box but do have a virtually identical mid-late 80's Datejust double box that I will include for just $2800 including shipping in Canada. Booklets and hang tag. If you want to save money you can have it with the small Rolex box for $2500 shipped. Still includes booklets, wallet and warranty (not shown)
A classy one owner watch and great investment piece with no mysteries or surprises and at a fraction of today's new Rolex prices.
