This is the Monster that started it all. The Seiko SKX779 Black Monster was seen by many as a one of Seiko’s most original dive designs. This is the original Monster with the venerable 7S26 movement. It has a unidirectional all stainless steel bezel and incredible lume. Included is the original stainless steel bracelet and extra links, along with the hang tag, box and manual.

Please note that the 7S26 movement in one of Seiko’s great workhorse movements. It just runs, and runs, and runs. There isn’t anything fancy about it. It resists shocks well, and is an automatic. It does not hack but when the mainspring is near exhaustion you can place gentle reverse pressure on the crown and it will stop the second hand, also known as poor man’s hacking. It does not hand wind but a few rotations of the watch in your hand will get it started. The beauty of this movement is that it keeps good time and can go a long time between servicing.
This watch is gently used. I bought it because, well, it was “The” Seiko “Monster”, but it hasn’t seen a lot of wrist time. I have mostly worn it on a NATO strap so the original bracelet is in very good shape. Nonetheless, it is used, and will have the fine hairline scratches associated with a used watch. It was strictly a desk diver, but as the pictures attest, still gleams.
