For sale is my mint Laco Kiel automatic flieger pilot chronograph. For those of you new to names outside the mainstream brands, Laco is a German brand and one of only 5 original flieger watch makers who supplied watches to the German Luftwaffe during world war 2. Basically, the 5 brands which were Laco, Wempe, Stowa, IWC and A Lange & Sohn are the original designers of the now eternally famous and vastly copied pilot watch design. Many companies have since then taken to manufacture pilot style watches using the original design such as Steinhart, Tourby, Archimede, etc but none outside the 5 originals can boast any real historical aviation heritage. They are solely stylings.
The Laco Kiel original was discontinued but was brought back and is currently sold as a limited edition. It is identical to the original release other than the engraved limited edition number on the non crown side of the case. It retails for just under $1800 euros which is about $2600 cdn. This one for sale is the original release model. It is an imposing but very elegant watch at 44mm. It has a brushed bezel and case side but has beautifully contrasted polished lugs which are curved to fit even smaller wrists and avoid that protruding lug look. The back is a sapphire display back which shows off the beautiful 7750 valjoux automatic movement and Laco engraved rotor. It has a black dial and perfect sapphire crystal and has a German text date wheel which I find a really nice detail keeping the watch tied to its German ancestry. The watch is mint. It comes with original warranty card, original mint leather zippered case, original black leather rivetted strap with tonnes of life left and also a nearly new brown aftermarket calf IWC style riveted strap with linen color stitching and unbranded deployment clasp. Stunning and historic just like a real pilot watch should be.
I'm asking a superbly fair $1500. Trades may be considered but sale is preferred at this time.
For those of us that love the IWC Big Pilot but not its near $10k price tag (and that's for a used one) but still want that historical pedigree and wrist presence, this is a no brainer.
Cheers
