Find another like it for sale... This watch is RARE!

Offered for sale is this very fine 18K yellow gold Rolex Reference number 8940.

Here is all the information I have been able to obtain on this watch:

Reference number 8940
Movement: Caliber 1210 18J. Adjusted to 5 positions chronometer rated movement. Movement number 99735
Case back number is 151381.
Case measure 36mm without the crown. 37.7mm with the crown

Apparently, this reference was made with 2 different movements. The first being a 17J adjusted to 2 positions and non chronometer rating. This watch has the better movement. The reason I state this is simple. After many hours scouring the internet for any information on this watch along with many emails to Rolex experts, you come up with very little but this is what I have found.

There is a 17J version with a different dial available for $5200

There was a 17J version sold at Heritage auctions a while back for $4500 which did not have the gold 18K rolex buckle and was not in the shape this example is in.

So from my emails to some Rolex enthusiasts, I have figured out the following.... As per case number on the back of the watch which is faint but you can see it, the watch would date to 1940 but considering the watch has this shock proof movement and they were not manufactured by Rolex until 1958, we will have to call this watch a 1958 or newer but certainly no later than 1963. It is obvious the case dates older but the movement it newer. Common in the olden days of all watch manufacturers.

I bought the watch and brought it to my watchmaker who cleaned the movement and polished the case, cleaned the original hands and batons. He also polished the inside ring which holds the movement. I also have found an original Rolex crown in 18K yellow gold which is now installed on the watch. This watch is in supreme condition and is priced accordingly. I am open to offers, but this is a rare piece and deserves the loving wrist attention that I will not be able to give it.

I am offering the watch for $7500 NET obo. I would consider a trade but not too anxious. It is rare to find a watch of this age in such fine condition and the rarity of the movement version of this watch makes it very special. Lets see who really wants a rare watch!
