I am offering one of my first loves for sale quite simply because it doesn't get enough wrist time anymore as my other Stowa Flieger. I'm a pilot for Air Canada and this watch has flown several thousands of miles across the country on my wrist (as a good pilot watch should!). I am selling it in the box with all its appropriate tags and papers.
Breakdown:
This B-Uhr has the B-type dial and is the closest representation of the original German Flieger timepieces of the 1940s that I have found among its competitors Added to that is the incredible handmade leather closed-loop strap by independent Dutch leathersmith Olaf Luten from Dstrap.com
These two items - the timepiece and vintage era strap- combine to give a faithful representation of the WW2 German Flieger in a more wearable size without sacrificing any authenticity.
I have personally had the pleasure of visiting the LACO factory in Pforzheim, Germany and trying on an original 55mm B-Type, and I have to say it felt like I was putting on my own watch. That's how good it is!
Specifications:
The Paderborn is a very wearable 42mm version of the original 55mm Flieger. Its tall case (13mm) gives the watch a real presence but, in combination with the custom pilot strap, feels very substantial (the OEM strap felt thin and cheap). The ETA 2824.2 movement is smooth, easily wound, and quiet providing the timeless quality of Swiss watchmaking. The case is bead-blasted giving a real 'military feel' to the watch and making scratches almost invisible (in fact, any scuffs or scratches almost enhance the WW2 feel of the watch - can't say that about many other watches!) Of course the case sports the 23883 engraving from the original Fliegers and has the manufacturing specs stamped on the back casing. Lastly, the high quality custom leather strap is cut from genuine thick hide and it's chocolate brown colour, large grain and oiled surface really speak to the era of the watch. It's also not as cheap looking as the original OEM strap which is why I purchased it. All in all, this is one hell of a cool pilot watch and as both a pilot and history buff, it's easily one of the most unique in my collection.
Condition:
1.)Sapphire Crystal - absolutely no damage
2.)Case - minor scratches from everyday wear but the bead-blasted surface makes them disappear!
3.) Strap - leather has no scuffs or marks anywhere. The edges are slightly frayed however this is a stylistic effect since the leathersmith didn't use edging wax and left the edges unfinished to enhance the vintage feel.
Brass Tax:
This piece's retail value new-in-box is as follows:
Long Island Watch $1190USD ($1535CAD)
Amazon.ca $1510CAD
LACO €980 ($1504CAD)
I am including the handmade leather strap which retails at €160 ($250CAD) in the final sale.
I am offering this timepiece with strap included for a total price of $1300CAD in box with papers (a savings of $450CAD!) just in time for the holidays!
This price does not include shipping and insurance as this will need to be discussed at the time of sale with the buyer.
Please only give me reasonable offers as I know this watch's value and will not be low-balled too much. If none of the offers are reasonable, I'll happily keep the watch all to myself
Cheers fellow CWCs!
