If you know this watch, then you will completely understand what a great find it is. I took it on trade from the ORIGINAL OWNER, who purchased it in 1969. He stopped wearing it about 25 years ago. Prior to that he wore almost every day for 15 years.
The case has lots of little dings and scratches from this daily use. The crystal is very scratched and hazy, or perhaps its not haze, but simply the aging of the dial. Fantastic patina.
It has the beloved 861 manual wind beating wonderfully!
This watch could be restored to perfection if you cared to. The crystal with inner bezel ring is easily replaceable. Add a movement cleaning and a quality polish, and you have a $2000 watch. Problem is, the way it is now, it looks like a million bucks!
I am sure that the movement could use a cleaning and lube. Other than that, you could have a great vintage collectible watch without doing anything else.
It is a big 42mm watch, and wears super comfortable. The bracelet is tight and will accomodate a wrist of 8" or more. The Speedmaster name and Omega logos on the caseback are in super condition. In fact, I am quite certain that it has never been polished. There is no softening of the edges on the indents.
As it stands now, the watch is keeping excellent time. The chrono works just fine, and all of the needles reset back to zero.
I offer this watch at $1000 firm, plus $50 for fedex overnight to any destination in Canada.
If no takers, in a couple of days I will order the new crystal and send it out for service and restoration.
