Hi, all.
I don't collect vintage Seiko watches. Some of you do, and so might like this one. That's why I bought it, and it's a recent buy.
It is a collectible reference 7005-8042, serial number is 242182, circa 1972.
Really nice black dial with interesting wedge-shaped markers that catch the light. I can't find any flaws in the dial with my loupe. The writing at 6 says "JAPAN 7005 8060 R AD".
The case is 37 mm across, and 43 mm lug to lug. Original case facets are there; it shows no signs of polishing. Lots of small scratches and a few small dings. The choice to polish or not is yours.
The movement is an automatic Seiko 7005A, with centre seconds and QUICKSET date. I believe this movement can be both hand wound and automatic. It is keeping reasonably good time--losing perhaps 30 seconds/day. That might improve; I don't think this watch has been used for some time. But it holds power overnight without winding, and the QUICKSET date works perfectly. No idea about service history.
The crystal was a real mess. I was able to get most (!) of the scratches out with a lot of Polywatch, but there is a crack on the edge at 1 o'clock. Again, up to the buyer to decide on a generic vs OEM Seiko replacement; both are readily available.
So, nice vintage watch, collectible and wearable. I'm including a NOS vintage black strap (not pictured) and keeping the NATO.
Because it's a bit of a "project", I'm expecting only $95, net to me. Please add $20 for tracked ExpressPost if you are outside Ottawa. Payment by EFT please, and of course you can send it back in three days (at your expense) for a refund if not as described. Lots of positive references on CWC as both buyer and seller.
Thanks for looking, and thanks CWC.
