Here we have an exquisite vintage Hamilton Piping Rock made of 14K solid white gold with gorgeous Roman numerals set in enamel on the case - not the dial, and swiveling lugs. The pristine dial is finished with butler silver with an enamel minute track and subsidiary seconds chapter. The blue steeled spear hands are true to form and in excellent condition.

Although there are only some light scratches on the case, the enamel ring itself is free of chips and wear marks which is hard to find on Piping Rock models since the enamel is prone to exposure from everyday activity. The inside of the case back is signed Hamilton Watch Co. 14K, Lancaster PA., 128688, and it snaps tightly together with the bezel. The outside of the case back is clear and free of engravings.

This case measures approximately 29mm wide (excluding the crown) x 43mm in length from lug to lug. Beneath the dial is a grade 979-F movement with 19 jewels that has been cleaned, oiled, and timed for 24 hours. The timepiece sets and winds smoothly and is keeping accurate time. Serial on movement: 2918820 which places the year of manufacture around 1931.

This is the same type of watch that was presented to the 1928 World Series winning New York Yankees team, which included Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig.

This is also the same type of watch that is worn by Lieutenant General Leslie Groves (play by Matt Damon) in Christopher Nolan’s film “Oppenheimer”.
