For sale is my 1974 Omega Speedmaster 145.022 calibre 861, with the collectible step dial. These early step dial omegas are becoming much harder to find, especially in this type of condition. The case is in exceptional condition for its age, and the matted black dial is absolutely mint with matching creamy markers and hands. The DN90 bezel has faded into a grey/blueish colour. Not often do you see these vintage Speedmasters in Canada.

This particular watch is rare in that it holds one of the last -74 cases that have the step dial. The 145.022-71 casebacks all had a step dial. But only a few the early casebacks of it’s successor, the 145.022-74 caseback, had a step dial. Why? It appears that Omega had the 73 movement and step dial sitting, and then when it reached 1974 they figured they needed to put a 74 caseback and just put in on the remaining 73 movements that they had in storage. And that was the end of the step dial. All this information is available on the Omega Forum.

So just to clarify, the Omega extract shows a production date for the movement of Feb 21, 1973. And then the serial number was stamped on the movement when it was put into the caseback (in early 1974). So the serial number of 32.2 dates the watch to early 1974, and the actual movement was produced in Feb 1973. A picture of the caseback (stamped 74) can be seen on the HQ Milton link below.

The watch comes with a 1171 Omega bracelet and 633 end links. Also included is the Omega extract from the archives, which shows the date of production and the market it was delivered to. The watch was purchased by HQ Milton in April 2016 and is currently running at COSC spec. I’ve included the link to the original HQ Milton listing of the watch below. This is an excellent vintage iconic watch, with tremendous history.
