I've had a lot of fun with this thing. Purchased in 2018 it was a safe queen before we met. The condition was "like new" or better.
Well...I wore it doing all sorts of things. We shared a lot of moments together. I am offering this up for the next potential owner to make their memories with the watch as they see fit. If you want a safe queen, this no longer qualifies.
This listing is for a 1991 Rolex 16613 Bluesy Submariner in two-tone with blue tritium dial, now colour-shifted to purple. Exxxxxx serial. Accessories include all that's pictured and one additional oyster link not pictured.
Condition as follows:
-bracelet scratched (but not stretched)
-clasp scratched
-crystal has a bad scuff on the edge at the 60-minute mark. Other minor scuffs 10- 28- and 35-minute marks. Only the 60-minute scuff is really visible, you can also see it in the pictures
-crystal has a few small flecks of dust under the glass to the right of the 9 o'clock marker
-hands are scuffed
-bezel insert has several scuffs, notably at 58-minute mark, 2-minute mark, 3-minute mark, and 16-minute mark
-gold bezel has minor scuffs at 60-minute mark and the 37-minute mark, and a bad scuff at the 2-3 minute marks
-dial has discolouration on each of the 4-o'clock and 5-o'clock markers
-case has two bad dents in the 11-o'clock lug, a significant scratch on the 1-o'clock lug, and the polished 9-o'clock side has 2 minor dings toward the far top edge and a scratch toward the far bottom edge.
-case has scratches on the backs of the lugs from bracelet removal. Beyond that, all polished edges show typical scratches from wear
-chamfers each have one or two minor dings
The condition can be described as worn. Actually based on the description above this thing is in terrible condition.
The watch runs great. Out of the few automatic watches I've had the pleasure of owning, this is always the one where when I pick it up, it's 'ready to wear.' I don't have a timegrapher; I can't speak to actual accuracy, but it's an extremely good timekeeper. The bezel functions flawlessly, the motion is a bit firm and the clicks sound and feel great. The watch winds smoothly. Pulling out the crown to wind, it sets the date smoothly, and goes into time setting mode as it should. The crown only screws in one way - with the logo upside down (d'oh!
) The purple dial, aside from its imperfections listed above on the markers, seems otherwise pristine. Text and coronet is razor sharp. It is absolutely gorgeous in every light.
With retail prices on new pieces continuing to climb, and the nostalgia of these old watches gaining momentum, I think it's a good time to send this off to the next owner.
Eventually it will need a service, but probably not for the foreseeable future. While I don't know its service history, I can attest it's been among my most accurate timepieces, and worn quite frequently.
Ask any questions you like. I am only considering a straight sale for this watch.
Disclaimer: I have done my absolute best to be discerning about condition. I held nothing back. Is there something else I didn't see? Maybe - I can't see at a microscopic level. If the buyer wants to arrange a F2F viewing in Ontario, I'd be more than happy to facilitate that. I am not a dealer or a wholesaler, and any agreement to purchase this watch would be final once it is delivered. There aren't as many of these on the market right now, for some reason or another. A couple in Ontario (private asking over $15K) and Chrono24 I saw the cheapest listing around $12K and it's very poorly polished.
Asking $13,900 net to me.
