Hi folks
Up for grabs is a watch I’ve had my eye on for a long time, due to its unique aesthetic and my soft spot for square/tonneau cases and boy, did it not disappoint.
The watch face is the first thing that hits you when the box is opened up as it’s familiar, yet unconventional.
Grey has never looked this good as there’s a variety of shades and textures to be had from bracelet to case to dial.
Behind the AR coated sapphire glass is a sea of contrasting greys on the dial with the minute track lying within the black hour track. Next you have a short seconds hand that reaches the hour track just so and with a counterbalance end the same length as the pointer which is coloured an on brand Orange, staying the course with contrast and minimalism.
The hour markers are likely the next thing you might notice as they echo the case shape wholeheartedly, which carries forward toward the date wheel, a nice little Easter egg.
The handset is presented thoughtfully with the minute hand showcasing an aperture that serves are a window for the inner minute track.
The radially brushed bezel and mixture of brush and polish on the case provides a luxuriant feel to rather curvaceous timepiece despite its square nature
The H1837 movement is produced by Vaucher and since Hermes’ has retained 25% ownership in the company since 2006, one can certainly say this is their own in house movement.
In an era where there is little innovation with watches, even sporty pieces, the H08 has shot right up to the top of the list as one of the watches I would highly recommend owning at one point or another.
This example requires a differential in condition between case and bracelet as the case is in rather excellent shape with very minor wear seen at some angles to small portions of the bezel and near the lugs as well as the non crown case side, seen more definitively in pictures than in real life.
The bracelet has the most proof of being a wearable timepiece worthy of being a daily as evidenced by the wears signs, though nothing egregious for a titanium watch almost 5 years old.
The lume is adequate though not dive ready, alas all timepieces have some shortcomings and this is the H08’s
Sized for my 7.3” wrist loose, the watch measures at 39mm x 46.2mm lug to lug, a 10.5mm thickness and a 21mm lug width.
The watch comes as a full set with double box, 1 extra full and half link, manual and warranty booklet.
Retail is $11,900
I’m asking almost 50% off retail at $6150 shipped from the GTA
