Up for grabs is a handsome looking upscale field watch from a brand with true Marine heritage.
UN has long been associated with naval and marine chronometers, highly accurate watches used aboard ships as timekeepers and for navigational use prior to modern GPS.
The Torpilleur lineup derives its name from from a specialized torpedo boat that was a small, fast ship introduced in the late 19th-century used to transport and deploy torpedoes against battleships, and with UN supplying their clocks and watches to over 50 navies worldwide, they see this watch as a companion befitting someone aboard such ships - for quick reference, there is a relief image of a Torpilleur on the case back
There are vintage cues across the watch from the coin edge bezel, the high contrast eggshell dial, the black spade-shape hands and a case that is entirely bead blasted, similar in texture to a cannon, you see the theme.
Despite its simplicity, there is attention to detail in spades, with added depth provided to the Arabic numerals using black in a manner to suggest a drop shadow. The steel hands are black polished and add reliable and elegant contrast against the off-white creamy dial.
Another nod to the military theme is the limited number printed in red on the subdial, evoking the serial numbers of military issued equipment. This is also seen on the plaque on the non crown case side.
The watch itself is in excellent shape with no real signs of wear except to the strap.
Powering the watch is the Calibre UN-118 generating 60 hours of power reserve.
The watch measures 44mm x 49.2mm x 11.8mm with a 22mm lug width, allowing this piece to wear like a 42mm watch on my 7.3” wrist.
There are 300 pieces in this limited run and this one is 144 of 300.
