Hey folks
Up for grabs is what I consider one of the most affordable, top tier GS that money can buy.
Essentially the love child of the Snowflake and Shunbun, this watch is in overall pristine condition with the only marring noticeable as a scuff to the micro adjustable clasp.
The 9R96 movement housed in this timepiece is an upgrade to the 9R86 with an accuracy of ±10 seconds per month with the 18K gold Grand Seiko lion ingot on the oscillating weight serving as indication of enhanced accuracy.
Featuring a vertical clutch column wheel chronograph, true GMT, Date, Spring Drive, power reserve indicator, and robust water resistance, this watch packs a punch and then some.
In true GS style, they go a step further bordering excess, as the chronograph measures elapsed time not just to the nearest fraction of a second but exactly - and to minimize time measurement errors when the chronograph buttons are pressed, a two-step READY/START mode was adopted: the chronograph enters READY mode when the START button is lightly pressed; a further press then starts the stopwatch - this intentional over engineering puts the Speemasters, Daytonas and El Primero’s to shame.
Add to the chronograph aspect that this is also a true GMT, with numerals across the dial that appear to be applied and dial furniture that is not only hand cut but hand finished, you’ll soon realize you’re overpaying with most other brands.
If the technical functionality of the watch wasn’t enough, the Zaratsu polishing on the handset is a jewel-like treat.
The sub register hands are a tempered blue and offer high contrast against the Shunbun like dial.
The watch measures at 43.5mm x 51mm x 16.1mm with a 21mm lug width.
The titanium case and bracelet allow this timepiece to wear comfortably on most wrists over 16cm and makes it feel smaller than it is.
If elegance and functionality were ever at odds with each other, the Grand Seiko designers did away with such a notion by determining the ideal distance between the tip of the seconds hand and the 1/5th marker on the dial – 0.15mm
As a complete set, the watch includes the double box, sleeve, rice paper, manuals, warranty card, extra links and carrying pouch.
The SBGC247 is a limited run of 700 pieces and carries a retail price of $14,300
You can have this incredible chronograph/GMT piece for less than the price of a Speedy Sapphire at $7750 shipped from the GTA
