Up today I have one of my favourite iterations of the Speedmaster.
This Speedmaster ‘57 ref 332.10.41.51.11.001, features a beautiful burgundy dial with black accents surrounding the dial and sub-dials.
Coming in at 40.5mm, with a lug to lug of 49.6mm and a thickness of 12.9mm, it wears beautifully on my 7.3” wrists, and is suitable for most wrists between 6.4-7.5”
The micro-adjustable clasp comes in handy during our summer months and the vintage inspired logo on the clasp is a nice throwback to the inspiration of the watch.
Despite retaining the Speedmaster name, the ‘57 variants are heavily inspired by the 1957 oregano right down to the broad arrow hands and steel bezel, though the masterfully imagined 9906 movement, with its buttery smooth winding and impressive finishing is reminiscent of sunrays across the skies.
While I don’t expect incredible lume from Speedmasters, this one does very well for itself and lasts a while into the wee hours of the morning.
The flatlink bracelet, also vintage inspired has an aggressive and comfortable taper from 20mm to about 16mm.
The bi compax register provides a better readability than the tri compax layout and the jump hour hand is a nice touch by Omega.
The date complication makes for an added value and the applied Omega logo at 12 is something I’ve always missed on other Speedies, and is a welcome addition on this lineup.
Overall the watch is in excellent shape with no major signs of wear, save for a few marks on the clasp and one or two links.
Included is the double box, manual, all 3 cards and 3 extra links.
Retailing at $13,500 + tax, this model is pricier than the more common Sapphire Speedy Pro.
