Hi all,

For your consideration is my vintage IWC Schaffhausen in solid 18k yellow gold, powered by the iconic calibre 89 manual wind movement. Serviced by Shane Ede in 2018.

The watch measures approxi. 36.5mm, 18mm lug, perfect for a dress watch.

Background
The watch was purchased from a local (Toronto) family. The story is the seller's grandfather bought the watch from a family friend who needed cash a long time ago (estimated several decades ago) and the watch has been in the seller's family possession ever since. The watch was subsequently handed down to the seller's mother. The mother entrusted her son (the seller) to sell the watch.

Documented Service history
It is rare to get the complete service history, but this watch was well loved during its life. Below is what I gathered based on markings inside the case back.
1959 - Based on movement and case serial, the watch dates back to 1959 (case production year)
1973 - While it is not clear when the watch was first sold, the earliest service record dates back to 1973. It is entirely possible that the watch was purchased in the 1960s.
1978 - Second recorded service
1987 - Third recorded service
1996 - Fourth recorded service
1996-2017 - No known service record
2018 - I took it in for service (by Shane Ede)

As you can see, the watch received great attention during the first 4 decades of its life (regular service interval) and only missed service history during the later 20 years. During the 2018 service, Shane noted that the watch was in great condition and all movement parts are in great shape. The key components are all original to the watch. He opinioned that the crown is likely original as well.

Condition

Dial - Original dial without any trace of redial. The dial has a nice creamy metallic finish with crisp writing. I took detailed close up photos of the dial, including two minor imperfections. Please note, these are taken with a 5x magnification, so the actual imperfection is hardly noticeable (as seen in later photos)

Hands - Original and are in immaculate condition. No oxidation (it is 18k gold) and no damage.

Crystal - I can't comment on the originality of the crystal, but it is in great shape after some polywatch. Otherwise, the seller told me the crystal hasn't been changed during their ownership.

Case - The case is in solid 18K gold, unpolished condition. It has all the correct Swiss hallmarks (helvetica head in the case back, between the lug) (See close up photos). The case back has minor dents as noted in the slightly uneven reflection.

Crown - Again, I can't comment on the crown originality, but Shane believes it is original to the watch.

Movement - This is the legendary Calibre 89 from IWC. Extremely reliable and very collectible given the condition of the movement parts. Again, attributable to the regular service it received over the last 60 years. Time keeping is going strong, roughly +13sec a day. I'm sure it can be fine tuned under single digit.

This is a great example of a vintage dress watch, very well maintained and ready to be loved by someone who appreciates history. Being a solid 18K gold watch, this will only appreciate in value for years to come. Below are some more mandatory wrist shots.

Feel free to PM for additional information.

I'm asking $3,000 or best real offer. My price is based on online auctions of similar condition watches and Hodinkee, which sold similar watches without service history for $2.6k to $3k USD.

After a bit of fine tuning, watch has been averaging -2sec per day, over two days.
