1972 - Seiko Pogue 6139-6002 Yellow Resist Dial Pepsi Bezel
When I first started collecting watches I heard about the Pogue, and also how many of NASA’s first astronauts were leary at using their new fangled Omega Speedmasters. How many of them would use their own watch to time rocket burns and other cockpit occurrences.
The Pogue seems like just such a myth and the variances of Seiko Chronographs from that era make finding a “complete” one an interminably difficult one. With that in mind, I present to you my attempt to show a very complete representation of the Pogue watch.
The things that matter to those that matter are:
Case - non-notched - post 1969
Caseback - Water Resist serial number - 208561 - January 1972 production year.
Bezel - Standard Pepsi
Bracelet - Stainless Steel with tapered H-ends. Probably after-market, but it came with the watch and I have no way to accurately date it.
Movement - Seiko 2139b 17 Jewels - recently serviced, see pic and description below, virtually unworn after.
Inner chapter ring - Yellow. NOS? After-market? eBay seller Seikosis’ ad is difficult to read. Let’s say it’s after-market for the sake of argument.
Dial - 1970+ releases featured a 70 m resist dial as “proof” was the result of a law to more accurately assess the watch’s capabilities. Originally this watch had a black dial and white inner chapter bezel. I replaced these with parts from ebay seller Seikosis. Again, the dial may be NOS or after-market, this is beyond my ability to comment.
I had the watchmaker here in Prince Albert service this watch and replace what needed replacing. His service receipt, which is the only proof of service he will provide, is as follows:
If I've missed something, please ask and I will try to answer any questions or provide pictures.
The watch is kitchy. It has some history. It is a vintage piece and I’ve done all I can to use authentic parts to create the complete package. The dial, the chapter ring, and the bracelet, are to my thinking, the only parts that are not original to the watch, but fit the other details.
I will sell it for $650 + shipping and will take offers.
I will work to ship with the best possible service at the most cost efficient price. I have set up a Flagship account, but have never used it having not sold enough expensive watches to have done so.
A lot of the information I have used here comes from The Seiko 6139 – 600X Collectors Guide
There are scratches and dings. Two quite bad ones on the case as shown in pics.

Complete Overhaul - Rusty - $275
Stem Gear Spring - $115
2 pusher gaskets/back gaskets $35
The watchmaker who serviced my watch replaced the case gasket, the pusher caskets and crown gasket, but I’m not selling water resistance by any stretch of the imagination.Stem Gear Spring - $115
2 pusher gaskets/back gaskets $35
