Up for your consideration is a truly collector grade Rolex Submariner 1680 Red liner.
Serial number 332xxx dates it to 1972.

The dial on this watch is just marvellous. The dial is free of any scratches or spray paint or chips, or bubbles. The tritium dial has acquired a heart-melting cream patina over the years. Hour plots are perfectly intact. Tritium hands have no chips.

The watch has signs of wear. I will leave it up to the next owner if s/he would like to polish it gently. For those that are allergic to swirls and scratches, the watch could very well be polished to make it new old stock.

It comes with 9315 folded bracelet with 280 end links. This bracelet is original to the watch and has some stretch. The clasp portion has been replaced over the years, date code m8. The watch is currently on a fairly new 93150 bracelet that can be also sold along the watch for an additional $2,000.

I had the watch serviced by my watchmaker in April 2019. Only the movement was serviced, as it had not been serviced since 1977. Caliber 1570 is working very well and keeping COSC time.

The crystal on the watch is the era correct original crystal that has no bevels (unlike service crystals), which is highly coveted by collectors. The crystal alone is $1000-1500 USD amongst collectors if you are lucky to even find an era correct one.

Serial number and model number are crispy clear between the lugs.

The watch has no box or the original certificate. It comes with an authentication document from Rolex Canada , dated 2014.

You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner dial and with a better case, beefy lugs on a 48 years old red sub. Please don’t hesitate to message with any questions. I would be happy to provide more pictures.

$32,950 ftf in GTA. Insured shipping is possible for appropriate members. ( Add $2000 if you want the additional bracelet.)

Ttt, to answer some of the common questions I have been asked:
- the watch has no relume of any kind
- the crown is OEM Rolex crown , so is everything from A to Z on this watch. A 1680 earlier than 1977 would be equipped with a twin lock crown and tube. Most of Pre-1977 submariner 1680s have had their either the crown or tube or both replaced during services. Mine still retains the twin lock tube but the crown has been replaced with the triple lock type crown.
- The date on the inside of the caseback is 4th quarter of 1972, in synchrony with the age of the watch by the serial number
- date wheel has got ‘open 6’.
- the plexi glass has some swirls that can be buffed with toothpaste if so desired.
Don’t hesitate to contact if I you need more information, please. Thanks for viewing.
