Up for sale is my Red Sub, reference number 1680 and the serial 2,652,_ _ _, dating the watch to 1970. Caseback is stamped 2nd quarter of 1970. The watch previously belonged to the original owner who wore it mildly in his rotation, over the many decades. He is a vintage Rolex collector and has taken precious care of all his watches (same gentleman I bought the explorer cream dial from that I recently sold on CWC).

The watch is fitted on a 93150 with 580 endlinks. Everything on the case is original to the watch. Original Mk5 dial, with original Mk3 bezel insert with tritium pearl. The insert has a nice even greyish-black fade, and the lugs are quite thick. The watch is telling time well within COSC spec.

The dial is perfect given its age, with absolutely no imperfections at all. The yellowish patina on the hands and markers are perfectly matching, with no scratches on the lume and no missing lume. The yellow patina on the hands and markers is very nice – on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being light yellow and 10 being brownish patina, I’d score this patina as a 6.

Red Subs were produced in the 2.07-3.99 million serial range, and the MK5 dial began around the 2.4 million serial. There was a short run on the Mk5 dial and was the first Red Sub dial with the red applied directly to the dial. The watch comes with a nice Rolex travel box.
