For sale is my vintage Rolex Submariner 16613 Bluesy with the purple-blue faded sunburst dial. The watch comes with everything shown in the pictures – all paperwork, original punched papers, service box, service guarantee and service receipt, black leather wallet, 1989-1990 calendar, and polishing cloth. It also comes with the original purchase receipt from European Jewellers at the Eaton Center in Toronto, dated Oct 17, 1989 (side note: if only that 7 and 9 were swapped that would have been the date of Black Monday, the October stock market crash).

The watch is an L serial, dating it to 1989 I believe.

The caseback has a very light engraving, of the original owner's initials.

I purchased the watch from a CWC forum member last year, who was selling it for the original owner.

The watch was serviced by Rolex in Toronto in 2005 and comes with all the service paperwork, and the watch sat in a safe from the time of service (2005) until last year when the CWC member sold it to me. The watch is keeping amazing time, yet has not been serviced since 2005.

The case is extremely sharp, the bracelet has zero stretch, and the purple sunburst dial is stunning. Some of the late 80’s bluesy dials faded to a purple-blueish colour, which can be noticed easily when looking at the watch on an angle.

The lume plots on the dial have aged to a very creamy patina colour.

The condition of this watch is incredible. You’d never think this was a watch from the 80’s, yet is has all the patina to show that it was.
