Today is National Radio Day

At least it is in the US.

According to NPR, the first radio broadcast was in 1920.

How far we have come in a little over 100 years!

My favourite radio station is a National Public Radio station out of Santa Monica, KCRW. Awesome music programming, including 24 hours a day of no advertising, streaming program on their website or their app, Eclectic 24.

That's great! It's amazing that radio has managed to survive 100 years. Just a few months ago I met some local radio hosts in Edmonton and mentioned my 14 year old daughter and how we listen to their morning show every morning on the way to school but we never get to finish "Cory's Cash Minute". The next morning Cory called my daughter and put her on the radio. She won some Kitty Mugs and Oh Henry chocolate bars for her and her sister and her friends. She still says it was one of the best days of her life. Some of her teachers and friends also heard it and that is the power of radio which all started with "a first radio broadcast".

That is a cool story!

I cant believe there isnt a Buggles vid post in here.

I mostly get my music from spotify bc I cant stand what music radio stations play these days (ya Im old, but unlike my wife, I dont need to hear the same 12 electronically generated pop/hiphop songs rotated every hour on every station).
But I do listen to a lot of talk radio...sports radio during hockey season, otherwise local news. I used to listen to those crazy guys like art Bell and George Nouri for entertainment late at night before conspiracy types got rage filled around covid)...the stories about aliens, illuminatti, supernatural etc were fascinating whether or not i believed any of it.
The son of a fairly well known Toronto radio guy went to my high school, Bob Mackowycz...only relevant to Gen xers probably.

For music, I tune into CKUA. It's donor operated and plays an incredible variety of music with extremely well informed hosts! For talk, it's mostly CBC for me and when I can get it, NPR.

Actually, CKUA also hosts an on demand streaming service that folks worldwide can listen to,
True, the programming is designed for Alberta listeners though which I appreciate. I listen to the farm report sometimes even though I know nothing about grain prices, lol.

I discovered NPR‘s Southern California station on the internet in 2009, listening to an internet radio station app WunderRadio. The app isn’t available to download anymore but amazingly the version I have on an old iPod still works.

Hmm, someone should start a new thread, “Whats your favourite app”…next to CWC. Chrono24 would probably win?
