Hello CWC, for sale is a vintage Longines, ca. late 1970s, with Longines' last in-house movement, the exquisite and highly-respected Cal. L990.1, which later became the Lemania 8810/8815. This movement was the world's thinnest automatic movement with sweep seconds and a date (and I believe still the thinnest with a full rotor), and variants have even been used in Breguets. I bought this watch because I wanted to own a watch with this movement, but it has been sitting in a drawer for too long and I feel I should let it go to a better home. This would be a great first vintage watch for a new collector.
The watch has a 33mm case, excl. crown, and is gold-plated, as it was a product of the quartz crisis years. The caseback has been scratched, due to a previous owner's ham-handed attempts at opening/closing the caseback, but I have inspected the movement inside and it is clean. The case has dings and scratches here and there, and there are some dark spots on the gold plating between the lugs that are difficult to see because they are obscured by the bezel. I haven't timed the watch, since the watch sits in the bank in Halifax and I am only here about once a month, but it winds, runs, hacks, and correctly changes date. Dial and hands are original. Comes on a generic strap with generic buckle.
Asking a reasonable $300 shipped. Available for a F2F deal in Halifax or Toronto.
