The original plan was to pick up an OEM 5512 vintage dial, hands, case and movement, and create a stunning patina perfect 5512.
However, I have yet to locate an original 5512 case, so in the event someone has one they would part with....project 5512 will be back on!
In the interim, seemed like a good idea to explore other options. So, if a 1560 movement is on your list, today is your day.
The article below has a lot of great info should anyone want some history on this movement, but I’ll give the highlights:
https://beckertime.com/blog/rolex-caliber-15601570/
1500 series started in the late 50’s
1560 was first Rolex in-house chronometer rated movement
The 1560 was used in several models, most notably the 1016 explorer and 5512 submariner. (A variant, the 1565 was used in the 1675 GMT).
The 1560 was used in the early to mid-60’s before being replaced by the 1570.
The movement is in good running condition. I have not had it serviced, nor do I have a service history for the movement.
The movement is shown in its entirety, so if you need something for a 1675 GMT, this may not be the movement for you. I do know that Rolex reused parts, and some OEM 1675’s had a 1560 labeled movement, but the specifics beyond that are outside my knowledge.
I also have a few bezel inserts. I don’t have the exact dates, nor do I know the micro-variant type they are.
I believe they have their original tritium pearls, which places the two submariners as 70’s-early 90’s.
The GMT bezel is a late 1675 insert with the blue back.
The bezels I’m selling for $250 each. Or a discounted price if someone buys all 3.
The movement I’m honestly not 100% sure as to the value. I’m open to any reasonable offer as long as the buyer can provide support on the pricing.
As all ads require a listing price, I’ll state the 1560 movement price as $2,500 CAD OBRO.
I’ve seen 1560’s sell for parts (non-working order) for $1,500+, so that’s the baseline I’m working from at present.
Let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or any additional info!
I do my best to thoroughly research everything I buy or sell, but vintage Rolex is an esoteric field at the best of times. Many on here will know much more than Ido, so I’ll update the ad in the event any new information comes to light.
